(Lebanon) -- A new temporary emergency homeless shelter could be up and running in Lebanon County next October. Some $33,500 dollars have been raised so far. More than 70 percent of those funds came in after the Reverend Alan Smith spent nearly all of December sleeping in a box outside the Church of the Good Shepherd in North Cornwall Township. Troy Williams, the executive director of the Lebanon County Christian Ministries, says people in need of a place to sleep would visit a resource center during the day to check in. "At the resource center is where the screeing would be done for those wishing to stay at the shelter," he says. "The resource center would also provide laundry facilities, shower facilities and most importantly, case management." The shelter, which is slated to open in October, will rotate among at least four churches in the county on a month-to-month or bi-weekly schedule. The money raised to this point will help pay for things like bedding and cots and the hiring of a part-time shelter coordinator.
