(Harrisburg) -- At least two more state lawmakers say they won’t be running for re-election next year. Republican Senator Jeffrey Piccola of Dauphin County and Democratic Representative Ed Staback of Lackawanna County both say they will retire. Piccola championed the law to allow a state takeover of Pennsylvania's troubled capital and chairs the Senate Education Committee. He narrowly won re-election in 2008. His district would dramatically change under a proposed Republican redraw of the state's legislative district boundaries, and would no longer include the heavily Democratic city of Harrisburg. Piccola is in his fourth full term as a senator. He served 20 years in the Legislature before that. He didn’t say why he won’t run for re-election. Staback is a senior state representative from the Scranton area who has served 14 terms. He's been the ranking Democratic member of the House Game and Fisheries Committee for the last eight years. His retirement makes at least nine seats open in the House.
