(Harrisburg) -- The state is mobilizing its effort to respond to flooding in central and eastern Pennsylvania due to remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. Governor Corbett says he’s elevated the state to the highest possible emergency level, meaning PEMA has brought all its key decision-makers in to the central Emergency Operations Center. He says they’re already working on their next steps -- for once the water recedes. "How do we go in? How do we assist them in recovering and assessing the damage so we can get an accurate indication of how much financial support we’re going to need from the federal government," Corbett says. The governor is urging residents in flood zones to steer clear of toxic flood waters. A Red Cross shelter in Harrisburg is open for evacuees from Dauphin County, where southern communities have seen the worst flooding. A spokesman for the capital region Red Cross says the shelter has cots for about 100 evacuees, and can bring more in if necessary.
