(Harrisburg) -- One state agency says people should prepare for winter heating bills despite recent unseasonably warm temperatures. The state Public Utility Commission has launched its "Prepare Now" campaign, aimed at encouraging energy efficiency. Commissioner Pamela Witmer says there are simple things people can do to winterize their homes: "Closing your drapes when its cloudy or at night, making sure your registers aren't blocked so heat's getting out, making sure your furnace is in good working order, even putting some plastic on your windows as insulation," Witmer says. She says customers should contact their utility or the PUC if they are having trouble making ends meet. She adds utilities cannot terminate service to people who can't pay during the winter months - a period that runs from November 30 to April 1.
