(Chambersburg) -- Pennsylvania's junior U.S. senator is touring central Pennsylvania today to discuss the economy and job creation in the region. Republican Pat Toomey called for cuts in federal spending to help create and maintain jobs during a town hall meeting at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg this morning. Toomey says it's important to support local businesses, such as small manufacturing companies, to help grow the economy. "What's happened with our economy is huge gains in productivity and automation have meant that we produce evermore products but with fewer people," he says. "Manufacturing is a smaller fraction of the total economy than it used to be, no question about it. But total manufacturing is still bigger than it's ever been." Letterkenny is the largest employer in Franklin County, with more than 3,600 workers on-site. Toomey also made stops in Gettysburg, York, and the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
