Residents speak out against possible zoning change near Mt. Gretna

(Mt. Gretna) -- Some Lebanon County residents are criticizing a possible change in zoning that could lead to housing projects near a resort community. Eastern Enterprises is seeking to rezone the land in West Cornwall Township, which could permit the construction of townhouses and single-family homes on ninety acres of forest land. Ted Martin, who owns a cottage in nearby Mt. Gretna, says besides possibly causing environmental problems, the move could also affect the area in other ways. "What we're really talking about is doubling, possibly tripling, the number of cars in the area, which goes to questions of how it impacts traffic, how it impacts safety, and how it really impacts the elements of life," he says. The land is currently home to a roller rink, which is the oldest building in Mt. Gretna, and the Lebanon Valley Rail-Trail. More than 150 people have signed a petition in opposition to the rezoning. The West Cornwall Township Planning Commission is expected to take up the plan at its upcoming meeting next month.
