(Harrisburg) -- A midstate Congressman says he still has some goals to accomplish in his final term in Washington, before he steps down at the end of the year. Republican Todd Platts says the struggling economy is the biggest challenge facing Congress. Speaking on witf's Radio SmartTalk, he says "everything needs to be on the table" when lawmakers negotiate. "It has to be about the economy and jobs, and I don't mean campaign rhetoric. We've got to be pragmatic. We've got to be realistic. What can the Congress and the President agree on to put people back to work," Platts says. He adds he's one of only seven House Republicans to refuse signing a pledge to never raise taxes. He says he's hoping to hear new ideas for kick-starting the economy during President Obama's State of the Union address tonight. Hear the speech live at nine tonight on witf 89.5 and 93.3.
