PA state senators show support for Santorum

Written by  Mary Wilson

(Harrisburg) -- Fifteen Republican state senators say Rick Santorum is their pick for president. Senate President Pro Temp Joe Scarnati and Jake Corman, chair of the chamber's Appropriations Committee, made the announcement yesterday after discussing it with Pennsylvania’s former US Senator. Santorum is the last of the Republican presidential candidates to tout his home state supporters. Scarnati says the crowded GOP candidate field is part of the reason Santorum is trailing in the polls. "I think what becomes a game-changer is as the field narrows, and there’s only a limited number of people going to be jumping into the race at this time, as the field continues to narrow I believe that the only place for Rick’s support to go is up," Scarnati says. Both Scarnati and Corman dismissed early polls showing Santorum far behind the leading Republican contenders -- Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, and Michele Bachman. The Republican state lawmakers pledged to do their best to help Santorum’s fund-raising efforts.
