(Middletown) -- The commander of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard says the state is in need of more updated military facilities. But Adjutant General Major General Wesley Craig points to the opening of two new buildings in Middletown, Dauphin County as a step in the right direction. The guard will use the centers, which were funded by Air Force Special Operations Command grants, for storing equipment. Craig says the 193rd Special Operations Wing, which maintains the military's only airborne radio and television broadcast mission, is the Air National Guard's most frequently deployed unit. "They were used in Haiti to tell the population where to go for hospitals and care, and they were used over Libya to broadcast messages to the Libyan army. They were used in Iraq and Afghanistan for the same thing," he says. "They've been all over the world." Craig says the $700,000 facilities will also house classrooms and areas for DAGRE teams, which protect aircraft in dangerous environments, to complete training exercises.
