One-stop shop centers for flood assistance

Written by  Mary Wilson

(Harrisburg) -- Seven centers located across the state in regions most affected by flooding will serve as hubs for disaster assistance requests. The state is opening the recovery centers throughout central and northeastern Pennsylvania for people who need to take up their assistance requests with either federal or state agencies. Governor Corbett says the Federal Emergency Management Agency will staff the centers to help register people for aid and state agencies like PennDOT and the Department of Public Welfare can deal with coincidentals of flood damage. "People can go in and say, you know, 'I lost my driver’s license. I need assistance, I need to sign up, I lost my home,' whatever," he says. "Under federal regulation, an individual can get up to $30,200 because of this storm, if they have the damage." Corbett says federal assistance can come in the form of direct grants as well as loans. He says his office is still in the process of requesting federal assistance for state and local governments devastated by flooding. In the midstate, the Disaster Recovery Centers are located in Dauphin and Columbia counties.
