(Pittsburgh) -- The only book to focus on the first temporary Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, Somerset County has hit the shelves in time for the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The account, called An Uncommon Field, features pictures of the memorial over several years and during all four seasons. Pittsburgh-based photographer and author Richard Snodgrass, who wrote the book, says he was struck by how connected visitors felt to the 40 passengers and crew members who died on the hijacked flight. "They would be the things that they had with them in the car, and they would leave them, and write 'thank you' on them, to the heroes," he says. The temporary memorial was dismantled in 2009. Snodgrass says he'll donate half the proceeds from his book to the permanent national memorial. A dedication for the first phase of the new memorial will take place in Shanksville on September 10th.
