(Fort Indiantown Gap) -- A facility that trains law enforcement to spot drug and weapons smugglers is back to full capacity after seeing its funding restored. The Northeast Counterdrug Training Center, managed by the Pennsylvania National Guard, has resumed classes and brought back about 45 employees who were furloughed. But, center commandant Captain Craig Kiehl says the facility isn’t completely out of the woods. "Yeah, our funding in the future is definitely iffy, so we just need to pare down, operate on the skeleton staff and do our best to provide the training that we’ve done for about fifteen years," Kiehl says. The center at Fort Indiantown Gap in Lebanon County runs low-cost classes for state and local law enforcement departments that otherwise couldn’t afford the expensive drills needed for training requiring specialty vehicles and equipment. It’s guaranteed about $2 million annually and had a budget of more than $6.5 million last year. The facility's funding was tied up in the Congressional stalemate over the 2011 budget this past winter and spring.
