Written by  Tim Lambert, witf Multimedia News Director

(Harrisburg) -- The first probable human case of West Nile virus of the year has surfaced in the midstate. The state Health Department reports an elderly Lebanon County woman was hospitalized on July 22nd with a high fever and neurological symptoms. She's currently recovering. The disease is spread by infected mosquitoes and was first identified in the state since 2000. In extreme cases, it can result in death. So far this year, mosquito samples in 54 counties have been identified with West Nile virus.
