(State College) -- Hurricane Irene could very well make its up the East Coast in the coming days and parts of the midstate could feel her wrath. Preparations are underway across Pennsylvania to deal with potentially high winds and heavy rains this weekend. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is deploying teams from North Carolina to Maine. Peter Young, warning coordinator of the National Weather Service in State College, says on its current track, Irene's effects could be felt as far west as Harrisburg. "At this point, it looks like the Capital District stands a pretty good chance of getting into some rain on the western edges of the storm right now," he says. "(You'll) probably, see some gusty winds as well, mainly during the day on Sunday." Young says the eastern half of the state could see flooding and tropical force wind gusts. He adds since a great uncertainty remains in Irene's storm track, people across the commonwealth need to remain vigilant. The Pennsylvania Emergency Management has issued tips for residents to deal with heavy rains and high winds.
