(Harrisburg) -- A central Pennsylvania Catholic bishop says he disagrees with President Obama's proposal to allow sterilization, abortion, and contraception to be included in health plans. Bishop Joseph McFadden of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg says he agrees with other Catholic bishops who are critical of the plan and says such a proposal "shouldn't happen in a land where free exercise of religion ranks first in the Bill of Rights." The federal Department of Health and Human Services rule requires sterilization and contraception, including abortion procedures, to be included in coverage in most healthcare plans available to Americans. McFadden says he and other bishops want the contraceptive mandate to be revoked. He adds people can sign a petition on the diocese's website asking Congress to reconsider the measure.
