(Harrisburg) -- The city's mayor is making a final plea for city council members to adopt her fiscal recovery plan for the capital. Mayor Linda Thompson discussed the proposal during an exclusive interview on WITF's Radio Smart Talk. She insists a so-called "commuter tax" is a last resort to gain concessions from the city's creditors -- noting the tax would apply to residents and people who just work in the city. "They (supporters of a commuter tax) believe that the largest portion of revenue would come from the outside individuals coming in, and it's true, it would. But to get that revenue, you have to sacrifice your own individuals," Thompson says. The mayor says while she hasn't had face-to-face contact with Governor Corbett, she hopes to have a meeting with him soon. You can hear the interview with Mayor Thompson about the city's financial situation on Radio Smart Talk. Meantime, city council hopes to start selling off of Wild West artifacts collected under former Mayor Stephen Reed, though the city expects to take a loss on the item.
