Marietta residents battle flood damage, power outages

Written by  Megan Lello, witf Reporter and Producer

(Marietta) -- Dozens of evacuated residents in a small central Pennsylvania community are returning to their homes to find flooding and other damage in the wake of Tropical Storm Lee. Homeowners in Marietta Borough, Lancaster County are enlisting the help of emergency responders and neighbors to help clean up the most damaged residences along Front Street. Angie Shearer, with the Marietta Pioneer Fire Company, says there's one problem in particular that could be harmful to the environment. "When the basements are completely flooded, and some of them were flooded all the way to the top of their basement and into the first floor, the home heating oil was setting in their tanks, and if that was compromised, it's not uncommon to see that a little bit of it is seeping out into the water," she says. Shearer says neighbors have already donated clothing, food, and drywall and carpet services to the affected homeowners. She adds the water conservation advisory for the borough has been lifted, but some residents are still without power.
