Manheim calls on donations, volunteers for flooding recovery effort

Written by  Craig Layne, Morning Edition Host/Reporter

(Manheim) -- Communities across the midstate are continuing to clean up after the worst flooding the area has seen in decades. Manheim Borough in Lancaster County remains under a state of emergency. Borough leaders are asking people to avoid direct skin contact with contaminated flood water and mud, though they say it is safe to drink from the community's public water system. Donations of food, linens, toiletries, clothing, household goods, mattresses and furniture for flood victims are being accepted at the Manheim Community Farm Show grounds. The borough is also bringing in dumpsters where flood victims can throw away contaminated, flood-damaged possessions. Volunteers are expected to work across across the community to speed up recovery efforts.
