(Undated) -- Two midstate teenagers will be honored nationally for their scientific research. The two Lancaster County students will receive $25,000 each in scholarship money from the Davidson Institute for Talent Development. Sixteen-year-old Marian Bechtel of Lancaster, a junior at Hempfield High School, says her research had to do with detecting landmines using sound waves. "I have a background in music. I've always been interested in music and I play lots of instruments. Also, I have counsins in Mozambique who have to deal with the daily threat of landmines, so I've always had that in the back of my mind," Bechtel says. Benjamin Clark, 16, looked into how stars form, a major question in astrophysics. The recent graduate of Penn Manor High School says he's honored to be one of 18 students from across the coutnry to receive the award. "The recognition is just fantastic. It's an amazing group of kids. It's just incredible. The money will certainly help pay for college, too. It's not exactly cheap these days," Clark says. He's currently studying at Cal Tech.
