(Camp Hill) -- With the new school year beginning soon, a midstate-based children's organization is reminding students to stay safe when riding to and from school. Safe Kids PA, in Camp Hill, Cumberland County, is urging parents to talk to their kids about how to safely get on and off the school bus. Child Safety Coordinator Alyson Fulton says bus drivers cannot see children when they're in the vehicle's blind spots. "That would be directly behind the bus, on the right side, toward the back of the bus, and directly in front of the bus, if they are too close to the front of the bus," she says. "They need to be out in front so that they can make eye contact with that bus driver. The bus driver alerts them that it's okay to cross the street." Fulton says kids should always stay at least five giant steps away from the curb and should arrive at their bus stops at least five minutes early. She adds students should not board the bus until the driver motions them to approach the vehicle, after it has come to a complete stop.
