(Undated) -- Thousands of people remain without power across the state as crews continue to clean up in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Governor Tom Corbett toured storm-damaged areas in northeastern PA, while Lt. Governor Jim Cawley spent time looking at damage in his home county of Bucks. "I am very pleasantly surprised and happy that the people of Pennsylvania took this seriously, followed instructions and kept themselves safe," Corbett says. At least five deaths in the state were blamed on the storm, including a Harrisburg man who was in a tent when a tree fell on top of it, crushing him. Charlie Shimanski, Senior Vice President of Disaster Services for the American Red Cross, says Hurricane Irene has taken a toll on their blood supplies. "The supplies before the storm even began were already tight, as they are every summer, and Irene caused the cancellation of more than 60 blood drives for the American Red Cross," Shimanski says. State officials say a preliminary estimate of statewide damage could take several days.
