Hurricane Irene knocks out power to thousands in the region

(Harrisburg) -- UPDATED 7:15 a.m. MONDAY: Thousands of residents across the midstate are without power as a result of Hurricane Irene.  The hardest hit areas for PPL customers are Daphin County (nearly 7,000) and Cumberland County (nearly 6,000). Some 15,000 Met-Ed customers are without power in Berks County and more than 6,000 of the utility's customers are experiencing power outages in York County.  The utility says about 7,000 customers are without power in Lebanon County.  Adams Electric  reports about 400 outages.  Utility crews are working to restore power across the region.
