(Harrisburg) -- Mayor Linda Thompson says a breakthrough agreement can be reached next week to avoid a state takeover of the capital city. The mayor says she's already presented her plan for a city financial recovery and is now waiting to hear ideas from council members who rejected it. Speaking on witf's Radio Smart Talk, she says she doesn't want to see the state take over the city's finances -- but if it happens, she'll be stepping into a role as an "adviser" to the state. "I have yet to get anyone to define to me what that means. I'll tell you what I want my role to be. I want to be a voice and an advocate to make sure that there's no more punitive status placed on the taxpayers of Harrisburg," Thompson says. City leaders have less than a month to agree on and submit a recovery proposal to the state. Four council members are backing a controversial municipal bankruptcy filing for the city. A judge will take up the case in late November. Check out the full interview with Mayor Thompson on Radio Smart Talk.
