Harrisburg health center to open in area of need

Written by  Craig Layne, Morning Edition Host/Reporter

(Harrisburg) -- Low-income people in search of health care will soon have a new place to turn to for help. Renovation work is underway on a 67,000 square-foot building that will be the new home for Hamilton Health Center in Harrisburg. CEO Jeannine Peterson says its new location in the 100 block of South 17th Street in South Allison Hill will serve the people who need help the most. "South Allison Hill is one of the most densely populated areas of the city and one of the poorest communities -- all critical criteria for situating a Federally Qualified Health Center site," Peterson says. The new building is slated to be completed next year. More than 19,000 people visited the center in 2010 for medical, dental and social services. Hamilton is the only Federally Qualified Health Center within a 30-mile radius of Harrisburg.
