Fundraiser rakes in thousands of dollars for car crash victims' families

Written by  Megan Lello, witf Reporter and Producer

(New Oxford) -- A fundraiser for the five Adams County teenagers killed in a car crash Monday has brought in thousands of dollars. Hundreds of patrons flocked to the McDonald's restaurant at Cross Keys outside of New Oxford yesterday to help raise more than $14,000 for the victims' families. Restaurant owner Emmett Patterson says patrons traveled from around the midstate to contribute. "The community really rose the occasion, " he says. "It was more than just New Oxford. It was people from Gettysburg, Biglerville, Hanover, and Spring Grove. The whole community just came out in droves to support these families." Proceeds from all sales made between 5 and 9pm yesterday were donated to the students' families. Four of the five New Oxford High School students will be laid to rest today. The funerals for 17-year-old Oscar Banda, 15-year-old Chelsea McFalls, and 16-year olds Anthony Campos and Diego Aguilar are scheduled for today. Sixteen-year-old Casey Sheridan's funeral is set for tomorrow.
