Former fire department treasurer pleads guilty to theft

Written by  Tim Lambert, witf Multimedia News Director

(Harrisburg) -- A former treasurer of a Dauphin County fire company has pled guilty to stealing more than $64,000 over a three-year span. Dawn Bower, who served as the treasurer of the former Goodwill Fire Company in Steelton, wrote 74 checks to herself from 2004 to 2007. She's pled guilty to two felony charges of theft and two misdemeanor counts of prohibited acts. Bower's slated to be sentenced August 18th and has agreed to repay the stolen money. The Goodwill Fire Company has since merged with Citizens Fire Company of Oberlin to form the Swatara Township Volunteer Fire Department. The Pennsylvania Department of State, the Dauphin County District Attorney's office and the Swatara Township Police Department cooperated with the investigation.
