Flood waters continue to threaten Harrisburg

Written by  Scott Detrow

(Harrisburg) -- Flood waters continue to rise across the midstate, as inundated communities wait for creeks and streams to begin to recede. In Harrisburg, the Susquehanna River won’t crest until this afternoon at the earliest. Police drove through empty riverfront streets last night, ordering evacuations. The city was under an eight o’clock curfew, with heavy fines threatened for people caught outside at night. Harrisburg resident Chris Curtis weighed whether or not to evacuate his home as he surveyed a flooded riverfront park. He says he’s worried. "A lot. Big time. It’s rising very quickly. I was just here a little earlier, and it definitely came up a lot," Curtis says. State officials have lowered the Susquehanna’s projected crest here, to about 29 feet. The city begins flooding at 22 feet.
