(Lancaster) -- Hundreds of midstate emergency personnel are expected to take part in an event to memorialize the firefighters who lost their lives in the Twin Towers ten years ago. Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster and the Gettysburg Middle School will host the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. The tribute calls for emergency responders to climb 110 flights of stairs in memory of the 343 New York firefighters who died on September 11, 2001. Andrew Hoffman is a funeral director at Fred F. Groff Funeral Home in Lancaster, which is co-sponsoring the event. He says Sunday's memorial will also pay tribute to a particular victim of the 9/11 attacks. "There's one family member that we will be honoring in the memorial service portion who lost a loved one in the Towers," he says. "We will be presenting that family member a flag and also releasing a dove in memory of the individual who perished in the Towers." Hoffman says firefighters will also present flags to the families of three fallen midstate troops who died while fighting overseas. The only other Memorial Stair Climb in the state will take place in Pittsburgh.
