Emergency fund designed to help residents recover clothing, furniture

Written by  Megan Lello, witf Reporter and Producer

(York) -- Some York County residents who've lost clothing, furniture, and basic household supplies in the wake of Tropical Storm Lee may qualify for aid from the county. The county commissioners, along with People's Bank, have created a $10,000 fund to aid homeowners who've evacuated due to flooding. County Spokesman Carl Lindquist says he hopes community members will donate to the project to help displaced residents get back on their feet. "For the people who have lost everything, lost their homes, lost all their belongings, the neediest of the needy, this will be just one way that they may be able to start rebuilding their lives and returning to some sense of normalcy," he says. The county's human services division will oversee the application process and determine how the money will be spent. There's no word yet on whether the county will receive federal aid, which would help with home repairs and other structural damage. Anyone interested in donating to the fund should make checks payable to the York County Disaster Relief Fund. Donations can be dropped off at People's Bank locations in York County.
