Public forum tonight on confirmed case of tuberculosis in Chambersburg

(Harrisburg) -- A Franklin County school district will hold a public forum tonight in response to concerns surrounding a confirmed case of tuberculosis at its high school. The case at Chambersburg Area Senior High School was discovered after testing about 200 people for the disease. Martin Raniowski, with the state Department of Health, says he hopes the meeting will help the community better understand TB. "I think a lot of people misperceive tuberculosis the way they see it in movies or on television," he says. "It's not a fast-spreading disease. It's not as easily caught or as contagious as, say, the flu or the measles." The agency is looking into how many people may have come into direct contact with the infected person. But it has said it will not release any of the information publicly. This evening's forum will be held in the high school auditorium at 6pm.
