Corbett unveils plan to collect impact fee on Marcellus Shale drilling

Written by  Scott Detrow, StateImpact Pennsylvania Reporter

(Pittsburgh) -- Two months after his Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission issued its recommendations, Governor Corbett is laying out his position on natural gas drilling. He wants a $40,000 per well impact fee on energy companies, and he wants the bulk of the money to stay at the local level. Corbett's plan would have counties levy and assess the fee, but pass 25 percent of the revenue along to the state. For more on Corbett's plan, check out StateImpact Pennsylvania, a collaborative effort among witf, NPR, and WHYY in Philadelphia.
