(Harrisburg) -- A midstate congressman has announced he will retire at the end of his current term. Republican Todd Platts has served the 19th District for six terms. The district represents all of York and Adams counties, as well as a portion of Cumberland County. But citing his support for 12-year term limit proposals in the past, he says he will not be seeking re-election this year. Valerie Caras, a spokeswoman for the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, says the GOP wishes Platts well. "This was certainly a family decision. Ultimately, he confided with his closest advisors and made the decision not to run for re-election," she says. The 49-year-old, who serves on the Armed Forces Committee, was first elected to Congress in 2000, after serving in the state House. His decision adds to the change coming to what is now the 19th Congressional District. As a result of redistricting, it will be renamed the Fourth District -- representing Adams and York counties, a portion of eastern Cumberland County and the city of Harrisburg.
