Census profiles nearly 100 arts groups in central Pennsylvania

(Harrisburg) -- Art galleries, nonprofit groups, and community theaters are being featured in the region's first so-called "arts census" in 15 years. The Harrisburg Regional Chamber and the Capital Region Economic Development Corporation have put together a list of nearly 100 arts organizations from six counties. It includes phone numbers, website addresses, and additional contact information for the groups. Chad Barger, executive director of the chamber's Arts Impact Committee, says the arts have a significant economic impact on the area. "The arts have a huge impact on our region," he says. "Economically, I think in the six county area here, they're responsible for about $62 million in annual economic activity and about 2,100 jobs." Barger says the list is designed to attract businesses to the region and keep people updated about arts events taking place in the area.
