(Carlisle) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Health is criticizing a Cumberland County hospital's response time for patients waiting in its Emergency Room. People have complained to the department about wait times at Carlisle Regional Medical Center's Emergency Room. In response, the department conducted a survey of the hospital in January -- and followed up a few weeks ago. During the investigation, it found the hospital was not reaching its goal of seeing 90 percent of ER patients in under 20 minutes. The health department detailed separate problems at the hospital earlier this month -- including low staffing levels it says may have led to patient deaths. Calls to the medical center were not immediately returned. A health department spokeswoman says it is not uncommon for the department to conduct complaint investigations as well as Medicare and licensure surveys.
