(Bellefonte) -- The media circus that descended on this Centre County borough to cover the preliminary hearing of Jerry Sandusky is gone. In its wake are local shop owners who are feeling let down. Traffic lights that were set to blink yellow and red to accommodate traffic are back to their usual pattern. But flashing red are the tempers of some business owners here, who are none too happy that the horde of reporters didn’t patronize the local shops. Jerry Hall, who runs The Old Country Crow shop, says he expected to do a lot of business Tuesday. "The borough gave us a paper saying that there was going to be thousands of people to town and it was going to bring lots of business to town, but it did not," Hall says. His store sells decorations that do well during the holidays -- and something that makes the place smell delicious. "It’s potpourri. We make all of our own potpourri. That’s what you smell," Hall explains. But a deli owner across from the court house says she was going to smell rotten food if she didn’t give it away. Most of the big buffet breakfast she prepared to serve media at 5 a.m. went unsold. Other shopkeepers say if the Sandusky case goes to trial, they hope it’s not in their town.
