Award designed to bring leading doctor to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center

Written by  Megan Lello, witf Reporter and Producer

(Hershey) -- A midstate foundation has set aside millions of dollars to help recruit a leading medical leader to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The Rocco and Nancy Ortenzio Foundation has pledged $3 million to establish a new position at the Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine. The endowment would allow a nationally-known doctor to take the reins of the campus' department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Rocco Ortenzio, a trustee of the foundation that's based in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, says the goal is to increase the accessibility of physical rehabilitation in central Pennsylvania. The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department was created at the medical center last year. The Penn State Hershey Rehabilitation Hospital is a collaboration between Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Select Medical Corporation.
