"Ah-Ha" grants awarded to groups solving problems in innovative ways

(Lancaster) -- A healthcare group, an environmental organization and a social services charity in Lancaster County are among the more than two dozen nonprofits receiving so called "Ah-Ha" grants. The Lancaster County Community Foundation has handed out nearly $1 million to 26 organizations in the county as part of its new initiative. Foundation CEO Sam Bressi says it's a way to find groups using innovative ways to solve problems in education, healthcare, and other areas. "The 'Ah-Ha' project is, to some degree, about risk-taking," he says. "It's about being able to stretch the way we do things and to try new, alternative approaches. Some of these things may fail, and that's okay, as long as we're learning along that process." Among those that have already received funding are SouthEast Lancaster Health Services, which is working to offer both medical and dental exams at one location, and the Lancaster Farmland Trust, which aims to preserve 100,000 acres of farmland in the county. New grant opportunities from the foundation will be offered early next year.
