10 years, 10 days, 10 views on 9/11: Diversity

Written by  witf.org

In many ways, the events of September 11th brought us together as a nation. We felt proud of our country and we felt a brotherhood with our neighbors. In many ways the events divided us. People were angry and looking for someone to blame and the loose networks of terrorists without a real nation were difficult to pin down. Instead, some began to view Muslim Americans with suspicion.

Today, we’d like to explore the ways in which diversity in America has changed following 9/11. Do you view the people around you in your local community differently since 9/11? Do you now feel more or less accepting of those around you? Is it ever okay to profile people based on race or religion?

Post your response to these questions in the comments below. You can also join our conversation on this topic on Facebook and Twitter, if you prefer.
