Homelessness has long been a problem across central Pennsylvania. In the last couple of years, the economic downturn, rising home foreclosures and high unemployment has forced more and more people out into the streets.
Advocates say the face of homelessness is changing, with more families finding themselves with nowhere to go.
All this month, WITF's multimedia Real Life | Real Issues series will report on homelessness in the midstate -- from how someone ends up on the street to why there's no one organization in the region to coordinate assistance efforts. Among those we'll talk with are families and veterans facing daunting situations and advocate on the front lines helping people get back on their feet.
Central PA Magazine starts the series off with a look at the elderly who are homeless.
WITF is also in the process of putting together a community forum on the issue. It's a chance for you to learn more about the problem of homelessness in the region and voice your thoughts and opinions. Details coming soon.
