witf recognizes that transitions can be tricky for some children and families. To help support families and children in the transition from preschool to kindergarten, witf has partnered with community agencies and sponsors to create an annual event to provide families with useful information and gives the soon-to-be kindergartners with a day full of fun and memories. Our 2012 event, celebrating the class of 2025, drew over 500 guests to the witf Public Media Center, including 175 children. For more information call 717-910-2806.
We had a great time at our first annual Ready Set Go…Kindergarten event at witf! With over 450 people and nearly 150 kindergartners, we enjoyed great special events like a visit from Zoo America, reading with the Dauphin County Library System and dancing with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. We also had fun exploring great activities all over the witf Public Media Center. We made pretzels with Tom Sturgis Pretzels, climbed on fire trucks and a cool piece of Volvo Construction equipment, explored Sutliff Street sponsored by Sutliff Chevrolet and learned amazing things from our friends at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. We enjoyed exploring language and writing in Kiwanis International’s Literacy Lane, were scientists (lab coats and all) with Harrisburg Academy and took home a beautiful keepsake tile from Color Me Mine. Plus while we bounced in a bounce house, got our faces painted and hung out with Clifford and Curious George, our families got lots of great information about helping kindergarten students be successful in school.
A huge thank you to all our great sponsors, supporting community groups and amazing volunteers! Look for Ready Set Go…Kindergarten for the class of 2025 on August 11, 2012, here at the witf Public Media Center. If you are interested in sponsoring the event, having a table at the event, or attending with your soon-to-be kindergartner, email Debbie Riek at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 717-910-2806.
