Continuing Coverage: Mariner East 2 Pipeline

Written by Tim Lambert, WITF Multimedia News Director | Feb 7, 2019 12:34 PM

Sunoco's cross-state Mariner East pipeline project has been beset by problems since it began, and those problems -- drilling spills, regulatory violations, safety concerns and public opposition -- drove an ongoing saga in 2018.

StateImpact Pennsylvania newscasts kept the public informed, following the project's path through shutdowns, green lights and eventual completion.

When the line was scheduled to open in September (a deadline it eventually missed), StateImpact Pennsylvania produced three radio features that went deeper to address public concern about what could happen if natural gas liquids were to leak, the science of why people are scared of pipelines, and why pipelines that carry highly volatile NGLs can be built so close to homes and schools.
