The Mexican Revolution, the first major political and social revolution of the 20th century, not only changed the course of Mexican history, but also profoundly impacted its relationships with the rest of the world. THE STORM THAT SWEPT MEXICO looks at the complex historical, social, political, economic and cultural forces that shaped the Revolution, influenced its course and determined its consequences and legacy.
This show examines the history and legacy of the 1910 Mexican Revolution, beginning with politician Francisco I. Madero's efforts to depose strongman-president Porfirio Diaz and the emergence of rebel leaders Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa; and concluding with the revolution's cultural and political impact, which includes the 1934 to 40 presidency of Lázaro Cárdenas. The documentary features archival footage and photos, the recollections of several Zapatista rebels and insights from scholars.
"The Storm that Swept Mexico" airs at 10 p.m. on Monday, September 19.
