Written by  witf.org

On Saturday, November 5, witf will launch Green Action Day, in partnership with PPL Electric Utilities. The day includes a live Radio Smart Talk remote broadcast from the Green Center of Central Pennsylvania, located at North Third and Reily Streets in Harrisburg, from 1-2 p.m. Host Scott Lamar will talk to guests about saving energy, reducing our carbon footprints and sustainability.

This daylong multimedia effort will encourage audiences to take action and live green. Throughout the day witf will provide practical everyday tips on radio, TV and the web to help you save energy, reduce your carbon footprint and support sustainability. Discover ways to save money plus have a positive impact on the environment. Together we can make a difference.

In preparation for this event, we'd like to hear your tips for going green during the winter. As temperatures dip outside, our energy usage often increases. Additionally, holiday celebrations can lead to excess waste. How do you address these seasonal concerns? What other environmental concerns do we face in the winter? Your tips will be shared on our website and during the live broadcast from the Green Center of Central Pennsylvania.

Please post your going green tips in the comments section below. Alternatively, you can share them on our Facebook page or Tweet them at @witf.

My family and I constantly reuse gift bags to reduce the waste of wrapping paper. I give a gift to my mom in a bag. She then reuses the bag for a Christmas gift for my brother and so on. I swear we only have like 6 bags in constant circulation! I've also wrapped some gifts in fabric and ribbons to avoid paper use.

I am the Energy Manager for the Chambersburg Area School District. Since July of 2007, we've saved over $2 million dollars on electric/gas and oil in the district. Feel free to visit my Energy Management site for tips and other info about energy: www.chambersburg.k12.pa.us/energy

I spend a lot of time in classrooms, too, educating students on energy conservation, offering contests, etc.

We're doing our part to save energy in the Chambersburg Area School District and many people carry over good habits to home as well.
