Legendary folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary looks back on its legacy

Written by  witf.org

The legendary folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary looks back on its legacy via contemporary interviews, woven together with archival performance clips from their early years in New York’s Greenwich Village; through the civil rights and anti-war movements of the 1960s and their break up in the early 1970s; their 1978 reunion up until their final studio recording in 2004, all the while documenting the impact these event had on them and how they influenced those events by carrying on the tradition of American folk music.

This film includes many encore performances from previous specials the group produced for PBS including their Peter, Paul & Mary: 25th Anniversary Concert (1986), Peter, Paul & Mary Holiday Concert (1988), Peter, Paul and Mommy, Too (1993) and Lifelines Live (1996).

Throughout this program, we'll hear commentary from many of the trio’s peers and colleagues, including musicians Tom Paxton, Pete Seeger and Ronnie Gilbert of the Weavers, and Richie Havens.

witf is proud to offer Peter, Paul & Mary: Carry It On, A Musical Legacy as part of its August fundraising campaign on Saturday, August 6 at 9 p.m. The show will air again on Thursday, August 11 at 9:30 p.m.
