witf will be airing a performance by Cherish the Ladies, the all-female Celtic group, on Classical Air on December 7 at 2:30 p.m.
The band began in 1985 as a showcase of the brightest female musicians in America in what, at the time, had been a male-dominated scene. Since then, it has been a launchpad for many of the top female musicians in Celtic music. Today, it consists of Joanie Madden, Mary Coogan, Mirella Murray, Deirdre Connolly and Kathleen Boyle.
The group got its name from a traditional Irish jig called "Cherish the Ladies." So far, they've recorded fourteen highly acclaimed albums, including On Christmas Night.
We'll be posting a video of the band playing in our studio to our website after their taping.
Cherish the Ladies will be playing a special Christmas show at The Carlisle Theatre on December 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40, $35 and $30 and sell out quickly, so it's recommended that you purchase your tickets as soon as possible.
