Centerstage concludes at the end of 2018

Written by Fred Vigeant, Director of Programming and Promotions for TV and Radio | Sep 14, 2018 11:50 AM

WITF will end production of our weekly concert series Centerstage at the end of 2018. We've made this change to shift staff resources to monthly arts and culture reporting. These features will be broadcast during popular programs Morning Edition and Here and Now.

The Centerstage series continued after WITF's change to an all-news format in 2012 as a place for listeners to continue seek a weekly taste of area symphony orchestras and other area performances. As time has passed since the format change, many listeners interested in classical music have moved on to other sources to satisfy their interests. Other sources have provided a more consistent offering of this genre of music.

This change reinforces our commitment to public service in our region by providing high quality national and regional news and information. In the past decade WITF has succeed in providing quality journalism despite declines from other sources. NPR and WITF have an established track record of providing trusted news globally, nationally and regionally.

We thank the loyal audience for Centerstage. We appreciate that you made the time to enjoy the performances from premiere organizations in our region. Unfortunately, the size of the overall audience has been consistently small. WITF regularly assess audience feedback, audience data through market research, and available staff resources. WITF will make a bigger impact by producing features about the diversity in the arts and culture community in Central Pennsylvania.

Centerstage will continue with regular weekly broadcasts Sunday at 8:00pm through December 30.  Information on the broadcasts for the rest of the year is avialable here...
