Bob Ross delighted and offered encouragement to the painting hobbyist in The Best of the Joy of Painting. WITF presents a mini-marathon of The Best of the Joy of Painting from 9:00am to 7:30pm Sunday December 31st and then continuing at midnight on January 1 until 6am, entertaining and instructional episodes, selected from the vast Joy of Painting library, the soft-spoken Ross creates tranquil natural scenes, including his trademark "happy" clouds, cascading waterfalls, snow-covered forests, serene lakes and distant mountain summits.

Using his "wet-on-wet" technique, Ross calmly glides large brushes across the canvas. This accessible technique, so-named because it involves the application of oil paint on a wet canvas, eliminates the need for each layer of paint to dry.

A cult-like figure since his low-budget, unrehearsed and unedited Joy of Painting programs first aired in 1982, the late Bob Ross' enduring popularity is attributable to more than just his paintings. His serene, nurturing disposition can serve as therapy for the weary, and his respect for nature and wildlife helped heighten environmental awareness.

Join WITF for a mini-marathon of The Best of the Joy of Painting Sunday December 31 beginning at 9:00am and continuing to 7:30pm, and then continuing at midnight on Monday January 1 until 6am.
