Weekend Changes to 89.5 & 93.3

Written by Fred Vigeant, Director of Programming and Promotions for TV and Radio | Jun 12, 2015 10:12 AM

WITF will introduce some changes to our weekend schedule beginning July 3 including a new program and new times for some of our favorites. One program will retire from our schedule.  As listening habits continue to evolve, WITF monitors the schedule and analyzes listening preferences to present the best public radio programs to you.

Programs involved in the changes include: The Splendid Table, Studio 360, Ted Radio Hour, Snap Judgment, To The Best of Our Knowledge, and Whad'Ya Know.

Listener trend reports during late afternoons on both Saturday and Sunday indicate that a reorganization of programs is opportune. Public radio on the weekends has become highly competitive with a host of new listening options available.  There are also a larger variety of programs available for consideration to help WITF maintain its mission, serve audience, and provide new driveway moments.

The two-hour program, Whad'Ya Know, has not sustained consistent audience interest in our schedule compared to other multi-hour programs like A Prairie Home Companion. This diminishment in the program's audience appeal has been observed nationally as well.

WITF's schedule is constantly evolving to provide the best possible content to our listeners.  We pay attention to what our region is telling us through market research which helps identify the programs not preforming well versus the programs that are a better fit for WITF.

One of the hours previously occupied by Whad'Ya Know will be Ask Me Another, a program of puzzles and word games hosted by comedian and storyteller Ophira Eisenberg.  Each episode features an interview with a VIP (that's Very Important Puzzlers -- notable actors, comedians, and authors whose identities are revealed via puzzle clues throughout the show), who then takes a turn in the contestant's chair facing trivia games written especially for him or her. As with any change, there is an adjustment period. There are new voices at new times, which may disrupt your routine and your listening habits.   This change has been thoughtfully considered, and WITF is confident you will enjoy the new arrangement of our weekend programs.   We will closely monitor the progress of these changes and make further modifications down the road as appropriate.

Diehard fans of Whad'Ya Know are encouraged to stream it on computer or download it for podcasting. These options are available at http://www.notmuch.com

I encourage you to try out the new line-up as you adjust to the new schedule.  Give Ask Me Another and Ophira a chance and welcome her into your car and living room as you go about your weekend.  Thanks for listening to WITF 89.5 & 93.3.

Oh, this was a great TV schedule. I wish for something like that right now. To The Best of Our Knowledge - this one is my favourite.
