Peg + Cat (read as plus not and) joins witf PBS Kids programming line-up beginning October 7.

What would it be like to wake up and find yourself in the middle of new adventure facing a “big problem.”? That’s what life is like for Peg and Cat, the heroine and her trusted sidekick at the center of this new problem-solving adventure series for 3-5 year olds. In each 11 minute episode, Peg and Cat find themselves thrust into the middle of a wacky word problem. This problem isn’t just an academic exercise for them, it’s a real life problem—a messy, fun crisis they have to solve to get themselves out of trouble.

Along the way they grapple with all kinds of loony, loopy obstacles, under intense time pressure. They write out diagrams and charts, sing songs and collaborate to test potential solutions, all in their own quirky, comical way.  Somehow, they always find a way to solve the “big problem” and save the day.

Through engaging stories and physical comedy, Peg + Cat inspires preschool children to see math as exciting, accessible and fun. The show teaches a wide variety of fundamental math skills such as measurement, shapes and patterns, ordinal numbers, relative proportion, fair sharing, and much more. It also teaches a collaborative, inquiry-based approach to problem solving that children can use in their everyday lives. As Peg and Cat struggle to solve problems, they guess, brain storm, improvise, bicker, play games, sing songs, and write out numbers and pictures. Along the way, they make mistakes, at times they despair, and occasionally they totally freak out! But they never give up. Peg and Cat prove to the young viewers that even the most daunting math problems can be solved, and that math is empowering and cool!

Peg + Cat is on witf TV every weekday at 8:00pm and 2:00pm beginning October 7 with witf's new PBS Kids schedule.  See the entire schedule....
