DOO WOP DISCOVERIES (MY MUSIC) brings back pivotal R&B and pop vocal groups of the late fifties and sixties through never-before-broadcast archival and new live performances of their most loved hits. Pop music icons Smokey Robinson, Mike Stoller (of the writing team Lieber & Stoller), Aaron Neville, Neil Sedaka, George Clinton and more share their favorite doo wop styles and songs of the genre. Hosted by Jon “Bowzer” Bauman, formerly of Sha Na Na, this new special includes interviews and appearances by guest DJs Cousin Brucie, Don K. Reed, Bobby Jay, Jerry Blavat, Harvey Holiday, Art LaBoe and TJ Lubinsky. DOO WOP DISCOVERIES (MY MUSIC) is part of special programming premiering on witf on March 14 at 8 p.m. and March 15 at 1 a.m.
“I started the preservation of doo wop and classic R&B vocal groups on PBS nearly 18 years ago, and since then hundreds of performers and classic groups have passed,” says My Music series creator-executive producer-director TJ Lubinsky. “It’s a thrill for me to come full circle and share this final chapter in our last all original, all classic doo wop shows now archived for history. In DOO WOP DISCOVERIES, we get to share all the groups and songs we were never able to present before, along with the stories from so many of the artists who made the music.”
